Community Spotlight: Restoring Comfort for a Hardworking Single Mom in Portland

At Renewal by Andersen of Oregon & SW Washington, we’re proud to partner with local non-profits that make a lasting difference in the community. Recently we had the privilege of working alongside Catalyst NW, a dedicated organization that provides critical home repairs and restoration services to families in need. One of our most meaningful collaborations was when we assisted Sherry, a single mom who spends most of her time caring for her 13-year-old daughter and stepping up as the primary caregiver for her elderly mother. With so much on her plate, it was necessary for her loved ones to feel safe and comfortable in their home.

Unfortunately, the original wood windows in her 1890s cottage were no longer doing their job. They were hard to open and offered no ventilation, giving Sherry and her family little protection against the hot summers and cold winter nights.

That’s when we decided to step in…

Our team partnered with Catalyst NW to install 12 brand-new windows in Sherry’s home. These windows were designed to match the traditional charm of her historic space while delivering the modern performance and comfort that she needed on a day-to-day basis.

We still kept the classic look of her wood windows, but this time they were crafted with our exclusive Fibrex® material – blending the strength of wood with the low-maintenance features of vinyl. That way, Sherry had windows that looked great and would last her through the ups and downs of Oregon’s unique climate.

We opted for a darker frame that really popped, bringing a bold look to the front of her home. Plus, the high-performance glass helps regulate temperatures year-round, reflecting heat away during the summer and keeping the warmth inside during the colder seasons.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without our incredible team. A huge shoutout to our project install managers Paul and Victor and the rest of our certified master installers. As always, they did an excellent job making sure the windows were placed with the utmost care and attention to detail.

At Renewal by Andersen, every project is completed in-house, from the initial design meeting all the way to the final installation. We do this to guarantee the best results for all our renovation projects, fulfilling our commitment to quality, accountability, and most importantly – to the people we serve.

We’re honored to have played a role in making Sherry’s home a more comfortable, beautiful, and functional space for her and her family; stories like these are why we do what we do.
